Dr. Greg Hu, President and CEO

Dr. Greg Hu is an entrepreneur and highly experienced oil & gas geologist. In 2004 he created his consulting company, H & H Consulting Inc. One year later, he co-founded Alberta Oilsands Inc. In 2006, he co-founded Loring Tarcore Labs Ltd. where under his leadership Loring grew quickly and became one of the top three oil & gas laboratories in Canada. This process included acquiring a pioneering Canadian oil & gas laboratory, and a coal and mineral laboratory.

As he became an experienced oilsands geologist, Greg noticed that existing lab processes were extremely labour intensive, slow, and error-prone. He also noticed that labs could not meet oil industry needs in terms of quality and turnaround time. He established a new lab workflow (idWorkflow) based on his own patent, with the goal of significantly improving lab processes.

Greg has over 25 year of experience in the oilsands industry, with experience working for Petro-Canada, Value Creation Inc., and Alberta Oilsands Inc. as a geologist, asset geologist, exploration manager, and VP Exploration. In addition, he has provided geological consulting services to companies such as Chevron Canada, ConocoPhillips Canada, and Koch Canada.

Greg obtained a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Western Ontario, in addition to a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in geology. He is a member of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG), the Canadian Heavy Oil Association (CHOA), and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). He was chair of the Heavy Oil & Oilsands Division (2012-2013) and the Basin Analysis and Sequence Stratigraphy Division (2001-2003) of the CSPG.
